About the Company 

IBM (International Business Machines Corporation) is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Armonk, New York, United States, with operations in over 170 countries. The company originated in 1911 as the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company (CTR) and was renamed “International Business Machines” in 1924. IBM is one of the world’s largest employers, with over 380,000 employees. In 2015, IBM was ranked 43rd overall in the Forbes World’s Most Innovative Companies ranking. In 2017, IBM was ranked 5th in the Forbes World’s Most Valuable Brand ranking. To get into IBM, one has to go through the IBM Recruitment Process.

IBM Recruitment Process or Selection Process

After applying to the IBM for placement, the candidate has to go through 3 rounds which test his/her employability skill. You can check the detailed IBM Recruitment Syllabus here. The 3 rounds are:

1. Written Test – This round consists of three sections namely, Number series, Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal Ability. The total time allotted is 100 mins. This section is designed to test a candidate’s mathematical and communication skill. Almost all companies use such formats to check the analytical level. It is easy to clear this round if you are in touch with your High School Maths and English areas. It is good to gain some practice before the exam. Practice for the IBM Written Test here.

2. Technical Round – This round is for candidates who clear the written round. The candidate can expect questions on any from the subject of study. Good subject knowledge is required to clear this round. A candidate should have the knowledge of Data structures, algorithms, DBMS, Operating System, Networking, OOPs concepts and a programming language of one’s choice. Candidates from branches other than CS should prepare for subjects related to their branch. CS candidates will be tested on coding during the interview. The panel will also be asking questions from the resume, so one should be well prepared with what they have written in their CV. Questions related to puzzles are also asked in this round. Some common technical questions are mentioned below:

    1. What do you mean by 3NF in DBMS?
    2. What is the operating system?
    3. What is the difference between Java and C++?
    4. What is a pointer?
    5. Tell us more about pointer?
    6. Write about double linked list programs?
    7. What is “Join” in DBMS?

3. HR Round – For this round, there is no specific pattern, a candidate will have to answer questions based on his/her personal choice, there are no right answers or wrong answers, and it is basically to test one’s personality. Some of the common questions asked are mentioned below:

    1. Tell us something about yourself.
    2. Which is your favourite subject and why?
    3. Why do you want to work for IBM?
    4. Would you be interested in joining any other company?
    5. Would you be comfortable working in shifts?
    6. What subjects have you done in your project?

IBM Eligibility Criteria

The IBM eligibility criteria for freshers is pretty similar to most of the other companies. Have a look at both Graduation and Academic Criteria before applying for the IBM Recruitment Procedure. It is important to note that many companies don’t accept applications if the candidates have less than 65% aggregate during college. Therefore, it becomes essential to maintain an aggregate of 60% with no pending backlogs.

Graduation Criteria

  1. B.E / B.Tech in any discipline (CSE/ECE/IT/EEE/TELECOM/EI).
  2. M.Sc graduates in Computer Science & Information technology are eligible to apply.
  3. MCA graduates are also eligible to apply.
  4. The candidate’s graduation degree should be a Full-Time course recognized by the Central/State Government of India.
  5. Only full-time courses will be considered (Part Time/Correspondence courses will not be considered).

Academic Criteria

  1. The candidate must have more than 65% marks in 10th and 12th (or diploma).
  2. The candidate must have obtained an aggregate of 65% marks in graduation.
  3. A maximum gap of 1 year is permissible after HSC(12th) and not after SSC(10th) or in between semesters of graduation.
  4. All pending backlogs(if any) should be cleared at the time of appearing for IBM selection process.
  5. IBM has a minimum 70% marks requirement across the entire education but this selection criterion varies.

IBM Recruitment Policies

  1. If a candidate after applying in IBM, misses the opportunity to give the interview for any reason, then the candidate can apply and attend the selection process again.
  2. If IBM decides to terminate the candidate’s application for any reason, then the candidate becomes ineligible to apply.
  3. If a candidate gets rejected by IBM in the final interview round, then the candidate is ineligible to apply again until a period of 6 months after the interview.
  4. A candidate can apply for the IBM Recruitment Process the second time only after a gap of at least 6 months. The company has the right to cancel the application during that time.

Documents Required (Original and Photocopies)

IBM asks students to upload the following documents in their portal before the final round of selection. The documents required for IBM recruitment process are as follows.

  1. The candidate must produce his/her latest and updated Resume containing all true information.
  2. Government ID Proof with the correct name and Complete Date of Birth i.e., DD/MM/YYYY (as in Aadhar/ PAN Card / Passport / Drivers License / Voters ID)
  3. All Marksheets – 10th, 12th (or diploma), All mark sheets of Bachelor courses.
  4. Other mentioned certificates.
  5. Latest Passport sized photographs of the candidate.
