Pattern programs in C

C program to print various patterns like half pyramid, inverted half pyramid, full pyramid, inverted full pyramid are discussed here.

1)Program to print half pyramid using *

#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
    int i, j, rows;

    printf("Enter number of rows: ");
    scanf("%d",&rows);

    for(i=1; i<=rows; ++i)
    {
        for(j=1; j<=i; ++j)
        {
            printf("* ");
        }
        printf("\n");
    }
    return 0;
}

Output

*
* *
* * *
* * * *
* * * * *

Note: To print half pyramid using numbers, replace the printf("* ") statement using printf("%d ",j);

2) Program to print inverted half pyramid using *

#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
    int i, j, rows;

    printf("Enter number of rows: ");
    scanf("%d",&rows);

    for(i=rows; i>=1; --i)
    {
        for(j=1; j<=i; ++j)
        {
            printf("* ");
        }
        printf("\n");
    }

    return 0;
}

Output

* * * * *
* * * *
* * *
* *
*

3) Program to print full pyramid using *

#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
    int i, space, rows, k=0;

    printf("Enter number of rows: ");
    scanf("%d",&rows);

    for(i=1; i<=rows; ++i, k=0)
    {
        for(space=1; space<=rows-i; ++space)
        {
            printf("  ");
        }

        while(k != 2*i-1)
        {
            printf("* ");
            ++k;
        }

        printf("\n");
    }

    return 0;
}

Output

        *
      * * *
    * * * * *
  * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * *

4) Program to print inverted full pyramid using *

#include<stdio.h>
int main()
{
    int rows, i, j, space;

    printf("Enter number of rows: ");
    scanf("%d",&rows);

    for(i=rows; i>=1; --i)
    {
        for(space=0; space < rows-i; ++space)
            printf("  ");

        for(j=i; j <= 2*i-1; ++j)
            printf("* ");

        for(j=0; j < i-1; ++j)
            printf("* ");

        printf("\n");
    }

    return 0;
}

Output

* * * * * * * * *
  * * * * * * *
    * * * * *
      * * *
        *
