Pune has 500+ IT companies across five tech parks, and most run dedicated fresher hiring cycles every quarter. The question is which companies match your skills, what the funnel looks like, and where to find listings before they fill.

Pune’s Five IT Corridors

Pune’s IT ecosystem isn’t concentrated in one place. According to UrbanPune’s 2026 IT company guide, the city’s tech employment is spread across five distinct corridors:

  • Hinjewadi (Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park): The largest, with 300+ companies. TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Cognizant, Mphasis, DXC, and KPIT all have campuses here. Most IT services volume comes from this zone.
  • Kharadi: Around 150 companies, skewing fintech and product. Capgemini, IBM, Deloitte, Zensar, Barclays, HSBC, Deutsche Bank, BNY Mellon, and Virtusa operate out of Kharadi. Higher salaries, tighter selection.
  • Magarpatta City: About 80 companies in a planned township format. Accenture and Quick Heal are the anchor employers here.
  • Viman Nagar: 100+ companies including LTI Mindtree and Tech Mahindra’s secondary campus.
  • Baner and Kalyani Nagar: The startup and product company belt — ThoughtWorks, NVIDIA, GlobalLogic, Icertis, and Red Hat are here. Fewer fresher seats but better career trajectories once in.

Knowing this geography matters. Two companies with identical job titles can offer very different day-to-day work depending on which corridor they sit in. KarmSakha’s 2026 IT career guide notes that the city’s overall fresher salary band runs ₹4–12 LPA, driven largely by the spread between service-tier hiring and product/fintech GCC hiring.

Companies That Hire Freshers in Volume

The table below covers the major recruiters in Pune, their campus locations, typical fresher salary ranges, and the entry-level role titles they use. Ranges reflect reported market data from UrbanPune’s 2026 company guide; actual offers vary by assessment score and batch.

CompanyPune LocationFresher RangeEntry Role
TCSHinjewadi₹3–5 LPAAssociate Software Engineer (Ninja/Digital)
InfosysHinjewadi, Kharadi₹3.5–5.5 LPASystems Engineer / DSE Trainee
WiproHinjewadi₹3.5–6 LPAProject Engineer
Tech MahindraYerwada (HQ)₹3.5–5 LPASoftware Engineer
CognizantKharadi, Hinjewadi₹4–6 LPAProgrammer Analyst Trainee
CapgeminiKharadi₹3.5–5.5 LPAAnalyst
AccentureMagarpatta₹4–6.5 LPAAssociate Software Engineer
Persistent SystemsSB Road (HQ)₹4–7 LPASoftware Engineer
KPIT TechnologiesHinjewadi (HQ)₹4–6 LPAEngineer
Zensar TechnologiesKharadi (HQ)₹3.5–5.5 LPASoftware Engineer

Three patterns stand out. IT services companies (TCS, Wipro, Capgemini) cluster in the lower half of the range; product-leaning companies like Persistent and KPIT start a step higher. The fintech GCCs in Kharadi (Barclays, BNY Mellon, HSBC) aren’t in this table because they hire smaller fresher batches directly; their packages are better but the process is closer to a product-company interview than a bulk IT services drive. A note on TCS specifically: the Ninja and Digital tracks use the same NQT test but score differently, and Digital-track offers sit at the top of TCS’s fresher range.

Selection Process and Eligibility

Across most Pune IT companies, the fresher selection funnel has three layers.

The first is an online test. IT services companies run aptitude-heavy tests covering quantitative reasoning, logical reasoning, and verbal ability, plus a basic coding section. Product companies and fintech GCCs weight the coding section heavily and often replace the aptitude round entirely with a data structures or SQL problem set.

The second is a technical interview. This covers data structures, OOP fundamentals, and at minimum one SQL query or schema design question. Having one personal project to talk through makes a material difference here: interviewers consistently note that candidates who can walk through their own code are easier to assess than candidates who can only recite textbook answers. FACE Prep’s guide to technical rounds at most Pune IT companies covers the specific question patterns that recur across companies.

The third is an HR round. At IT services companies this is typically a 20-minute conversation about flexibility, relocation, and joining timeline. At product companies, the HR round probes communication clarity and how you explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Eligibility norms

Most IT services companies in Pune set the same baseline:

  • Minimum 60% aggregate across all academic years (Class 10, Class 12, and undergraduate degree)
  • No active backlogs at the time of joining
  • B.E./B.Tech from any discipline; IT services firms explicitly accept ECE, EEE, Mechanical, and Civil alongside CSE and IT

Product companies and GCCs typically restrict to CSE, IT, and ECE, and some set the CGPA floor at 7.0 rather than 6.0.

KPMG (which has a major presence in Kharadi) runs a different process for their Global Technology and Advisory (GTA) track. KPMG’s interview process skews toward SQL, business analytics, and communication over pure coding.

How and Where to Find Openings

Campus placements are the obvious first path. Most Pune IT companies tie up with engineering colleges in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu for on-campus drives in the final year. Your placement cell coordinator is the first person to ask, not job boards.

For off-campus and post-graduation applications, four sources cover most of the market:

  • Naukri.com: The highest-volume fresher job board in India. Set up job alerts for “software engineer fresher Pune” and “IT trainee Pune” with an email alert; good openings close fast.
  • LinkedIn Jobs: More useful for product companies and GCCs. Hiring managers at Kharadi-based companies are active on LinkedIn and often post openings before they appear on Naukri.
  • Company careers pages: TCS, Infosys, and Wipro each have dedicated fresher portals (careers.tcs.com, infosys.com/careers, wipro.com/careers). Applying directly means your application isn’t filtered through a third-party aggregator.
  • Walk-in drives: Capgemini, Cognizant, and several mid-size Pune companies periodically run walk-in drives. Announcements appear on Naukri and LinkedIn five to seven days ahead. Bring ten copies of your resume; the line moves fast.

Vodafone’s hiring process, which runs through their Hinjewadi GCC, is a useful case study in how a telecom-tech company structures fresher selection. Vodafone’s interview pattern includes a heavier focus on networking and communication skills than a typical IT services round.

Skills That Move Your Resume Forward

Java and Python remain the most consistently listed languages across Pune IT job postings. SQL appears in nearly every role description, including non-developer roles like business analyst and quality analyst. REST API concepts show up in about half the fresher job descriptions at product companies and GCCs.

The shift worth noting: fintech companies in Kharadi and product firms in Kalyani Nagar are increasingly listing “AI/ML basics” or “Python for data processing” as preferred skills, not just programming fluency. This is a change from three years ago when these roles were purely backend development.

That shift matters for how you present your projects. A SQL database project and a Python script calling an external API demonstrates more than listing “Python” in your skills section. The Kharadi companies asking for Python and AI basics aren’t expecting a published paper; they want to see that you’ve deployed something and understood what broke when it did. TinkerLLM at ₹299 gives you a structured set of LLM exercises to build and deploy as portfolio projects. Going from “I know Python syntax” to “here’s a live URL” is a faster transition than any course playlist, and it’s the conversation-shifter in a second-round interview at a product company.

Frequently asked questions

Which IT companies in Pune hire freshers with less than 60% marks?

Most large IT services companies (TCS, Infosys, Wipro) set a firm 60% floor. A handful of mid-size companies and startups in Baner are more flexible. Your best bet below 60% is to apply through platforms like AMCAT or eLitmus, which some companies use for off-campus shortlisting regardless of marks.

Is Hinjewadi or Kharadi better for a first IT job in Pune?

Hinjewadi is the larger hub with 300+ companies and suits IT services roles at TCS, Wipro, Capgemini, and Tech Mahindra. Kharadi skews toward fintech GCCs (Barclays, HSBC, BNY Mellon) and product companies — packages are often higher but the selection bar is steeper. For most freshers, Hinjewadi gives more volume of openings.

Do Pune IT companies hire from ECE and EEE branches?

Yes. TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, and Capgemini explicitly include ECE and EEE in their campus eligibility. KPIT Technologies and embedded-software firms in Pune actively prefer ECE graduates for automotive and chip-design roles. Product companies typically restrict to CSE and IT.

How do off-campus fresher drives differ from campus placements?

Campus placements are coordinated through your college placement cell — the company visits, tests, and hires on a fixed schedule. Off-campus means you apply directly on Naukri.com, the company's careers page, or LinkedIn Jobs, then clear the same test-interview funnel. Off-campus often has a broader application window and is the only route once you've graduated without a job.

What is the usual joining timeline for fresher offers in Pune IT companies?

IT services companies typically issue offer letters three to six months before the joining date. Batch training (induction) starts in waves — often Q1 and Q3 of the financial year. If you're in your final year, an offer in January usually means a July or August joining. Product companies join faster, sometimes within four to six weeks of the offer.
