The Three Selection Rounds

MAQ Software’s standard pipeline for freshers has three stages:

The written test is 60 minutes with two back-to-back sections:

No negative marking has been reported across campus placement drives. Difficulty is easy to moderate: the test filters candidates who lack basic aptitude and coding fluency, not candidates who have prepared at all.

Technical Interview and HR Interview

Technical Interview

The technical interview is the stage most candidates underestimate. Expect questions on:

• C++ (pointers, memory management, constructors, destructors, templates)
• Object-Oriented Programming (inheritance, polymorphism, virtual functions, abstraction)
• Data structures (arrays, linked lists, trees, graphs, sorting algorithms)
• DBMS (SQL queries, normalisation, joins, indexing)
• Your final-year project, in depth

The project section matters more than most freshers expect. MAQ Software interviewers ask you to walk through the design, justify technology choices, explain what you would change, and discuss the deployment or testing approach. Candidates who clear the written test but do not proceed past the technical round lose out here almost universally. The aptitude is cleared; the project explanation is thin.

Before the interview, write down three to five questions you can imagine the interviewer asking about your project. Prepare specific answers to each, including what you would do differently given a second attempt. This is also where version-control habits and testing approaches often come up, so be ready to describe your workflow, not just your output.

Every skill listed on your resume is fair game. If you have written Python on your CV, expect Python questions. Be honest about proficiency levels.

HR Interview

The HR round assesses communication, attitude, and fit. Common questions:
