MAQ Software’s fresher hiring process has three rounds: a written aptitude and coding test, a technical interview, and an HR interview.

About MAQ Software

MAQ Software is a technology services company focused on Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, and cloud solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform. Founded in 2000 by Rajiv Aggarwal and headquartered in Redmond, Washington, the company employs over 1,000 people globally, with engineering teams based in Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune. MAQ Software holds Microsoft Preferred Supplier status and maintains a consulting partnership with Amazon Web Services.

The company’s three core practice areas are Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, and Cloud. For most fresher hires, this translates into Power BI dashboards, Azure-based data pipelines, and SQL Server implementations for clients in technology, retail, energy, and healthcare. This is delivery work, not bench work. New hires are allocated to live client projects within weeks of joining.

For Indian engineering freshers, MAQ Software is notable for giving CSE and IT graduates early ownership of analytics and cloud delivery rather than starting on support or maintenance tasks.

Eligibility Criteria

Before you apply, confirm you meet every threshold. MAQ Software does not make exceptions once the shortlist is finalised.

Degree eligibility:

  • B.Tech or B.E. in CSE or IT
  • M.Tech in CS or IT
  • BCA + MCA
  • B.Sc. (IT) + MCA or B.Sc. (CS) + MCA

Academic percentage requirements:

  • Class X (SSC): 65% or above
  • Class XII (HSC or Diploma): 65% or above
  • Engineering or MCA programme: 60% or above in your specialisation

Other conditions:

  • No active backlogs at the time of interview
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • Problem-solving and debugging ability

Candidates from core engineering branches (ECE, EEE, Mechanical, Civil) are generally not eligible for the Software Engineer track. Check the MAQ Software Careers portal for current openings, as role-specific eligibility can differ from the standard criteria above.

The Three Selection Rounds

MAQ Software’s standard pipeline for freshers has three stages:

RoundFormatWhat gets tested
Written TestOnline, 60 minutesAptitude (basic maths) and Coding (basic algorithms)
Technical InterviewOne-on-one, 45 to 60 minutesC++, OOP, data structures, DBMS, project depth
HR InterviewOne-on-one, 20 to 30 minutesCommunication, motivation, cultural fit

Campus drives typically run all three rounds on a single day or across two consecutive days. Off-campus candidates go through the same stages but may have a longer gap between rounds.

Written Test Pattern

The written test is 60 minutes with two back-to-back sections:

SectionQuestionsTimeTopics
Aptitude3030 minutesNumber series, algebra, percentages, probability, permutations, geometry
Coding230 minutesArrays, strings, basic algorithms, standard data structures

No negative marking has been reported across campus placement drives. Difficulty is easy to moderate: the test filters candidates who lack basic aptitude and coding fluency, not candidates who have prepared at all.

FACE Prep’s guide to aptitude test preparation for engineering placements covers every topic area in the aptitude section with worked examples and time-management strategies. For the coding section, refer to FACE Prep’s data structures programmes in C, C++, Java, and Python for common problem patterns.

The MAQ Software placement papers and test pattern guide has worked solutions for past aptitude and coding questions along with a full section-by-section prep plan.

Technical Interview and HR Interview

Technical Interview

The technical interview is the stage most candidates underestimate. Expect questions on:

  • C++ (pointers, memory management, constructors, destructors, templates)
  • Object-Oriented Programming (inheritance, polymorphism, virtual functions, abstraction)
  • Data structures (arrays, linked lists, trees, graphs, sorting algorithms)
  • DBMS (SQL queries, normalisation, joins, indexing)
  • Your final-year project, in depth

The project section matters more than most freshers expect. MAQ Software interviewers ask you to walk through the design, justify technology choices, explain what you would change, and discuss the deployment or testing approach. Candidates who clear the written test but do not proceed past the technical round lose out here almost universally. The aptitude is cleared; the project explanation is thin.

Before the interview, write down three to five questions you can imagine the interviewer asking about your project. Prepare specific answers to each, including what you would do differently given a second attempt. This is also where version-control habits and testing approaches often come up, so be ready to describe your workflow, not just your output.

Every skill listed on your resume is fair game. If you have written Python on your CV, expect Python questions. Be honest about proficiency levels.

HR Interview

The HR round assesses communication, attitude, and fit. Common questions:

  • Why do you want to join MAQ Software?
  • How do you handle pressure or multiple simultaneous tasks?
  • Describe a time you worked in a team with a difficult colleague.
  • Where do you see yourself in three years?

The HR round is rarely the stage that eliminates candidates. Those who clear the technical interview are in a strong position heading into HR, provided there are no significant communication gaps. Prepare a two-minute introduction covering your degree, key project, and what draws you to MAQ Software’s analytics work.

How to Apply

On-Campus

MAQ Software visits select engineering colleges in Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, and some Tier-2 cities for campus recruitment. Check your placement cell notice board for drive announcements. If your college is not in the circuit, ask your placement officer to request a visit for the next cycle.

Off-Campus

MAQ Software lists current openings at maqsoftware.com/careers. To apply:

  • Navigate to the Careers page and find “Current Job Openings” under India.
  • Identify a role that matches your degree and specialisation.
  • Submit your resume through the portal or the email address listed on the posting.

LinkedIn and Naukri are secondary channels. Most fresher openings appear on the official portal first. Referral applications through current MAQ Software employees also enter the same pipeline and tend to move faster through initial screening. Keep a record of each application submitted, including the role title, date, and channel; off-campus processes span several weeks and tracking helps you follow up without duplicating submissions.

Documents to Carry

Bring originals and one set of photocopies for any drive or onboarding appointment:

  • Class X (SSC) mark sheet
  • Class XII (HSC or Diploma) mark sheet
  • All semester mark sheets (graduation and post-graduation, if applicable)
  • Government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN card, Passport, or Driving Licence)
  • Two recent passport-size photographs
  • Updated resume (printed copy)

What MAQ Software’s Work Means for Your Technical Prep

MAQ Software’s delivery teams work in Power BI, Azure Machine Learning, and SQL Server analytics. Those are the areas where data engineering and applied ML intersect: a fresher who can walk through one end-to-end data project, something that pulls data from a source, transforms it, and surfaces a result, handles the technical interview’s project section with notably more confidence than someone whose only work is coursework submissions.

Two deployed projects on a public GitHub repository do more for that conversation than a stack of online course certificates. TinkerLLM at ₹299 is the starting point if you want to build that first project before the recruitment window opens, without committing to a full certification programme upfront.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage is required to apply to MAQ Software as a fresher?

MAQ Software requires 65% or above in Class X and Class XII, and 60% or above in your engineering or MCA programme (CSE/IT). These thresholds apply at the time of application and interview.

Does MAQ Software hire from non-CSE or non-IT branches?

The Software Engineer role is listed for B.Tech/B.E. in CSE or IT, M.Tech in CS/IT, or BCA/B.Sc.+MCA combinations. Other engineering branches such as ECE, EEE, Mechanical, and Civil are not listed in the standard eligibility criteria.

How difficult is the MAQ Software technical interview for freshers?

The technical interview is the hardest stage. Expect questions on C++, OOP, data structures, DBMS, and your final-year project. Candidates who prepare project explanations thoroughly and have solid C++ fundamentals pass at a notably higher rate than those who rely on aptitude scores alone.

What happens if I have an active backlog at the time of applying?

MAQ Software requires no active backlogs at the time of interview. If you have pending arrears, wait until they are cleared before applying. Applying with a disclosed backlog will result in disqualification at the eligibility screening step.

How long does the MAQ Software selection process take from test to offer?

Campus drives typically complete all three rounds within one to two days. Off-campus candidates may wait two to four weeks depending on the batch size and interview scheduling.

Can I apply to MAQ Software off-campus if my college is not in their circuit?

Yes. MAQ Software lists openings on its careers portal at maqsoftware.com/careers and on LinkedIn. Off-campus applicants go through the same three rounds as campus candidates. Referral applications through current employees also enter the pipeline.

What topics should I focus on for the MAQ Software written test?

Focus on number series, percentages, probability, permutations, and basic algebra for the aptitude section. For coding, practise array manipulation, string operations, Fibonacci, and standard data structure problems in C, C++, or Java.
