High-frequency topics for the ELQ test

The aptitude section runs 75 questions in 142 minutes and draws from three areas: quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, and verbal ability. The communication section runs a further 18 questions in roughly 20 minutes with its own cut-off.

The story-writing round

The story-writing exercise runs online, immediately after ELQ test results display. The mechanics are straightforward:

• Character limit: 1,200 characters
• Time allowed: 15 minutes
• Remaining character count displays in real time

Assessment focuses on grammar, punctuation, logical flow, and writing clarity. A common mistake is spending the full 15 minutes describing the image literally instead of constructing a narrative with a beginning, a development, and a resolution.
