HCLTech Recruitment 2026: Selection Process and Exam Pattern

HCLTech recruits BE/BTech and MCA freshers through three stages: an online aptitude test, a technical interview, and an HR interview.

Older guides still in circulation describe a Group Discussion round as part of HCLTech’s selection process. That stage was removed from standard fresher drives. The current process runs three rounds from application to offer, and the aptitude test is where most candidates get filtered.

Hiring Tracks at HCLTech

HCLTech runs three distinct entry paths. Engineering graduates compete on the standard or the elite AI-skilled track. TechBee is a separate programme for Class 12 pass students and is not part of the BE/BTech fresher pipeline.

TechBee deserves specific mention because it is a recurring source of confusion in placement prep communities. The programme is open only to students who have passed Class 12, not to engineering graduates. Applying to TechBee with a BE/BTech degree leads to automatic rejection at the application stage. If you hold an engineering degree, your path is the standard or elite fresher track.

Eligibility for the Standard Fresher Track

HCLTech’s standard eligibility criteria for engineering freshers:

• Degree: BE/BTech in any branch, or MCA
• Aggregate: 60% or above (CGPA 6.0 or above) across 10th, 12th, and graduation
• Backlogs: no active backlogs at the time of application
• Batch: current or immediately prior graduation year (2025 or 2026 for active drives)

Branch restrictions are minimal. CSE, IT, ECE, EEE, and mechanical students all appear in HCLTech’s on-campus and off-campus drives. Non-CS branches sometimes face closer scrutiny in the technical interview, particularly on programming fundamentals, but the aptitude test and HR round are identical for all branches.

On-campus drives run through college placement cells during August to December for most institutions. The Selection Process

HCLTech’s fresher selection runs in this sequence:

• Stage 1: Online aptitude test — four sections, 60 minutes, no negative marking
• Stage 2: Technical interview — CS fundamentals, data structures, project discussion
• Stage 3: HR interview — behavioural questions, background verification, CTC discussion

Clearance of each stage is required to advance to the next. Aptitude test results are typically communicated within 3 to 5 working days. Technical and HR interviews are often scheduled on the same day or on consecutive days once candidates clear the written round.

The three-stage structure has been consistent across recent hiring cycles. There is no separate standalone coding round, though the Technical section of the aptitude test includes output-prediction questions on C and C++ code.

An optional General Knowledge section of approximately 5 questions focused on HCLTech’s history, founders, and recent developments may appear in some drives. There is no negative marking in any section. On a 15-question section, approximately 11 correct answers are typically needed to clear each section based on the cut-off shown in the table above. The test runs online through HCLTech’s partner platforms, and the 1-minute-per-question pace is uniform across all core sections; Quantitative Aptitude and Logical Reasoning are where most candidates report time pressure. Technical and HR Interview Rounds

The technical interview typically runs 30 to 45 minutes. Topics covered include:

• Data structures: arrays, linked lists, trees, graphs — definitions and basic operations
• Algorithms: sorting and searching — concept explanation and code walk-through
• OOP concepts: inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, abstraction — with examples
• OS basics: process vs. thread, memory management concepts, deadlock conditions
• DBMS fundamentals: normalisation, SQL queries, indexing principles
• Project discussion: your final-year project or internship work in detail, including your specific contribution

The HR interview follows technical clearance and is conversational rather than eliminatory. Common topics: career goals, why HCLTech, strengths and weaknesses, willingness to relocate, and CTC expectations. Candidates are rarely filtered at the HR stage unless there is a background discrepancy or a significant CTC expectation mismatch.

The Elite AI-Skilled Track in 2026

HCLTech’s standard fresher track carries ₹3.5 to 4.5 LPA for most BE/BTech and MCA graduates who clear the three stages. The elite track is a different outcome entirely: according to The Hans India, HCLTech announced packages of ₹18 to 22 LPA for AI-skilled freshers in 2026, the highest publicly disclosed IT-services AI premium for entry-level hires.

To qualify for the elite track, candidates typically need:

• Deployed AI or GenAI projects on a public portfolio (not course certificates alone)
• Working knowledge of Python and hands-on experience with at least one LLM framework such as LangChain or LlamaIndex
• Understanding of data engineering and cybersecurity concepts
• Strong performance in an extended technical screen rather than the standard three-stage process
